The Office of the Accountant General, Mizoram was created vide Notification No. 64-Audit/M&C/208-1997/Notification/01 dated 14 March 2006 which came into effect from 1 April 2006. Vide this order, the Office of the Accountant General (Audit) and Accountant General (A&E) located at Shillong, Meghalaya which had been composite offices for the three states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram, were trifurcated leading to creation of separate offices for the three states. Shri Vijayendra Nath Kaul, the then Comptroller & Auditor General of India laid the foundation stone of the office on 26 April 2007.

Shri L. Tochhawng, IA&AS was the first Accountant General and Shri Vanlalchhuanga, IA&AS was the first Group Officer. CAG Audit Report for the state of Mizoram was independently published by this office from Aizawl for the first time for the year ended March 2007.

Initially, the office started functioning from a rented building at Mission Veng, Aizawl and another building at Model Veng, Aizawl was rented for transit accommodation of staff who came on tour basis/deputation from other sister offices. Later on, the office shifted to Dinthar in January 2008 while the rented building at Mission Veng was used for transit camp, in addition to the one at Model Veng.

The present office building which is situated at New Capital Complex, Khatla was inaugurated on 21-5-2013.
