Office of the Principal Director of Audit, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) has been named after the great freedom fighter, leader and statesmen Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.

The production activity started on 26th January, 1950 the day when India became Republic. The initial product of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works was Steam Locomotive.

It has transformed itself from being a  manufacturer of Steam Locomotives to that of Diesel locomotives and finally to Modern, high power, Electric Locomotives. The venture has paid off and at present CLW is proudly producing state-of-the-art 3-phase locos with all modern features of latest “Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor”(IGBT) technology.

Branch Audit Office at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works is housed in the Administrative Building and is headed by a Group Officer. The function of this branch office is to audit the accounts and other activities of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works.


Office of the Principal Director of Audit, Banaras Locomotive Works

Laying of foundation stone of Banaras Locomotive Works by the first President of India Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad was done on 23rd April, 1956. In August 1961 Banaras Locomotive Works (erstwhile Diesel Locomotive works) came into existence. First Broad Gauge Locomotive (WDM-2) released by (Late) Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in January 1964, first Meter Gauge Locomotive (YDM-4) released by (Late) Shri Morarji Desai on 22 November 1968 and first Broad Gauge Shunting locomotive (WDS-6) turned out in February 1975. Office of the Principal Director of Audit, Metro Railway

To solve the transportation problems of the people of Kolkata, a Rail- borne Rapid Transit System in the form of Under ground Railway (first of its kind in Indian Railway) was proposed and the construction of Metro Railway, Kolkata started in 1972. India’s first Metro became a reality on October 24, 1984 with a partial service on 3.40 Km between ESPLANADE and BHOWANIPUR (Now NETAJI BHAVAN). Gradually the 25.13 km section from DUM DUM to KAVI SUBHAS with 23 Stations became operational in 2011. Metro Railway, Kolkata has since been declared as a Zonal Railway in December 2010. 

Metro Railway Branch Audit Office is located at the Headquarters' Office of the Director General of Audit, Railway Production Units & Metro Railway, Kolkata and is headed by the Director General of Audit. The function of this branch office is to audit the accounts and other activities of Metro Railway, Kolkata.
