From the Editor's Desk

The sixth issue of the Journal of Government Audit and Accounts is a special edition that presents highlights of the 28th Accountants General Conference, 2016 and Symposium held on between 20th-22nd October, 2016 in the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, New Delhi.

The journal contains video broadcasts of speeches of the Honourable President of India and Comptroller Auditor General of India at the inauguration of the Accountant General Conference as well as the transcripts of these speeches. The article “Highlights of the Conference” summarises the deliberations on the four themes discussed at the Conference viz. Auditing the programmes related to Sustainable Development Goals, Meeting Challenges in Revenue Audit, Impact of IFMS on Accounts & Entitlement (A&E) Functions and Audit of Local Bodies: Perspectives & Concerns.

The video podcast presented before Honourable Prime Minister at the inauguration of the Symposium focuses on the emerging challenges that impact CAG’s public auditing and accounting functions emanating from the profound changes in the national environment, new initiatives in governance and growing public expectations in terms of delivery and impact of government programmes. The article “Symposium Synopsis” provides details about the panel discussions on three sub themes – Emerging Areas in Audit, Public Engagement with the Institution of the CAG and Impact of e-Governance on Auditing and Accounting. Besides these articles this issue of the journal contains other regular features on-From the International Desk, Important Communications and Archives.

We propose to continue with the thematic approach in future issues of the journal, and the next issue will be on the topic of “Big Data”. We also plan to add a regular feature on “Innovative Practices” to showcase innovation in a field office. Articles would be sought for from all offices for this purpose. We look forward to your support in making the journal a vibrant and valuable tool for knowledge dissemination in the Department.
